QUEZON CITY — Members of Akbayan Youth and Youth Against Kurakot (YAK!) coalition held a protest outside the House of Representatives in Quezon City, demanding that Congress pass an Anti-Political Dynasty law.
The groups stressed that political dynasties have entrenched themselves in seats of power for decades, permeating across levels of government, and severely dragging the country’s progress, especially in the education sector.
Akbayan Youth National Chairperson Khylla Meneses said.
(It’s been nearly four decades since the Philippine Constitution demanded an Anti-Dynasty Law. Some families have also been sitting in government seats for decades. Yet up until now, why is that nothing is being done about it?)
(That’s why corruption in the government cannot cease; it’s because there are certain families who are making a business out of governance. They are siphoning from the public’s coffers. They are stifling reforms. They are making their families wealthy and not the people.)
The protest took place as Congress began its committee hearings on the submitted anti-political dynasty bills, a mandate that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. himself had instructed the two houses following the four legislative measures he deemed priorities in early December last year.
