MANILA – The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) is ready to brief the Senate about its programs and policies, Malacañang said on Friday.
This came a day after Senator Robinhood Padilla filed a resolution seeking a Senate investigation into the PCO’s alleged dissemination of “unverified, potentially propagandizing, and misleading information” that caused public confusion.
PCO acting Secretary Dave Gomez expressed readiness to cooperate with the Senate, should it conduct an inquiry regarding the agency’s information dissemination, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.
“We welcome the filing of the resolution. Full cooperation ang PCO upang maliwanagan at matulungan ang Senado sa kanilang trabaho (The PCO will give its full cooperation to clarify matters and assist the Senate in its work),” Castro said, citing Gomez’s statement.
Padilla, in a Senate resolution he filed on Thursday, cited the alleged growing public concern over PCO’s communication style, which he claimed “contributed to public confusion, misinformation, or misinterpretation of government actions and policies.”
He also alleged that the PCO’s official communications have been delivered in a manner that is “combative, rhetorical, or lacking in data-based clarity, rather than calm, fact-based and public-service-oriented.”
Castro described Padilla’s claims as “disappointing,” saying the senator appeared to lack full awareness of the PCO’s communication methods.
“It’s kind of disappointing because had he watched, viewed the press briefing in full, he would have observed and witnessed how we deal with the government programs and government projects for the people,” she said.
