MANILA – The appointment of former finance secretary Ralph Recto as the new Executive Secretary gets backing from senators who expressed confidence that his leadership and record of public service would strengthen coordination and governance in Malacañang.
Senator Erwin Tulfo on Wednesday lauded Recto’s appointment, citing his strong performance in steering the country’s fiscal policy and safeguarding economic stability.
Tulfo said the government stands to gain from having Recto lead the Office of the Executive Secretary, noting that his “distinguished years in public service” have shown him to be an effective and trusted statesman.
He also thanked Recto for the support he extended during Tulfo’s tenure as social welfare secretary.
“His unwavering assistance was crucial, allowing us to continue our strides in pursuit of social justice. Congratulations, and you have our full support, Executive Secretary Recto,” Tulfo said in a statement.
Senator Lito Lapid, who served alongside Recto in the Senate for 12 years, expressed confidence in his appointment, describing him as a public servant of talent, dedication, and unquestionable work ethic.
He noted Recto’s readiness for the demanding responsibilities of the position, often referred to as the “Little President.”
“Mabibigat na trabaho sa Palasyo ng Malacañang ang kanyang pupunan kaya naman malaki ang aking kumpiyansa na magagampanan niya ito nang matapat, masigasig, at may malasakit sa sambayanang Pilipino (He will take on heavy responsibilities in Malacañang, and I am confident he would fulfill them with integrity, diligence, and compassion for the Filipino people),” Lapid said in a statement.
Recto took his oath as the new Executive Secretary before President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, replacing Lucas Bersamin.
