MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) has deployed emergency medical response teams to Bogo City following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu Tuesday night.
In a public advisory on Wednesday, the DOH said that upon orders from Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, the first batch of medical responders from the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City left for Bogo early Wednesday morning.
The initial team included general surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, and orthopedic specialists, equipped with medical supplies and commodities to treat injured patients.
By 8 a.m., a second batch of medical teams was also mobilized from Cebu City to reinforce operations at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City.
These are in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure immediate assistance to communities affected by the temblor.
To strengthen emergency response, the DOH has raised a Code White Alert across Central Visayas. This ensures that the DOH Operations Center, along with health facilities in the region, is fully prepared with medicines, medical equipment, and Health Emergency Response Teams (HERTs) to address the needs of earthquake victims.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assure the public that health services will remain accessible in quake-hit areas.
