MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to proclaim the 64th party-list representative in the 20th Congress next week.
According to Comelec Chairperson George Garcia, they may announce the additional lawmaker by Sept. 18.
“The Law Department and the Supervisory Group of the National Board of Canvassers have already submitted their recommendations. They are recommending the immediate proclamation of the 64th party-list nominee,” he said in an interview on Thursday.
Earlier, the Comelec said it would proclaim a winning party-list representative, noting that the 63 seats allocated during the May 2025 elections do not fulfill the required 20 percent party-list composition of the Lower House.
However, the poll body did not identify the party-list group as it was waiting for the ruling to become final.
“The finality of the decision on Duterte Youth is still on Sept. 30. Expect the Certificate of Finality to be issued after the finality on Sept. 30,” he said.
Earlier, the Comelec en banc affirmed the cancellation of the registration of the Duterte Youth party-list, which was entitled to three seats in the House of Representatives after winning in the May 2025 polls.
The party-list has asked the Supreme Court to stop the commission from implementing its ruling.
