MANILA – The executive order (EO) creating an independent commission to investigate alleged anomalies in flood control projects is ready for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s signature, Malacañang said Sunday.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the proposed commission underwent a “serious study” and is envisioned to provide the public with a credible mechanism to scrutinize irregularities.
“We expect that in its final form, the executive order will be welcomed by the people because that is what we are doing, everything for the people,” he told reporters in an ambush interview at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
Bersamin did not divulge further details of the independent commission.
He also declined to confirm whether Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has agreed to serve on the commission, noting that membership is the President’s prerogative.
The independent body will focus initially on questionable flood control projects, but officials earlier signaled the scope could be expanded to cover other infrastructure projects flagged by the public.
