MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Thursday said 28 luxury vehicles linked to the Discaya family are now under its custody.
In a statement, the bureau said the family surrendered 16 high-end cars.
On Wednesday, the BOC secured 12 vehicles through a court-ordered search at the St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor & Development Corp. compound owned by the Discayas in Pasig City.
The 16 vehicles are now undergoing processing by the BOC for sealing and documentation and will be guarded by Customs personnel, pending verification of importation records and assessment of duties and taxes.
The luxury vehicles are Mercedez Benz GLE, Land Rover Range Rover LWB, Land Rover Defender, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Ford Bronco, Mercedez Benz GLS 350, BMW X5 30D, Jaguar F-Pace 2.0D, Porsche Cayenne V6, Volvo XC90, Mercedez Benz Avant, LAND Rover Range Rover Evo-F, Mercedez Benz Sprinter, ATV Quicksand, Yukon Denali, and ATV Gray.
With the help of the Land Transportation Office, the BOC vowed to continue its thorough investigation into the vehicles owned by the Discayas, who are tagged in anomalous flood control projects of the government.
“We are committed to pursue the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to combat smuggling, protect government revenues, and ensure accountability through lawful customs processes,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.
Meanwhile, the bureau is giving the couple Pacifico and Cezarah Rowena Discaya 10 days to submit the documents on the purchase of their 12 luxury cars.
“They have 10 days to prove their innocence, that they are the real buyers in good faith. So we will base our investigations and conclusions based on the documents,” he added in a television interview.
The BOC chief said they have started the matching of documents that were submitted to them.
Nepomuceno said the bureau is looking to complete the process next week.
“Give us more or less another week, the remaining part of this week and next week,” he said.
