AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE CHAN-GONZAGA WELCOMES NEW DUAL CITIZENS

23 July 2025, Ottawa – As part of the regular consular services offered by the Embassy of the Philippines in Ottawa, 12 qualified individuals took their oath of allegiance under the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 or more commonly known as the Dual Citizenship Law (R.A. 9225). A briefing was held for the new dual citizens regarding their rights and privileges.
After the oathtaking ceremony, Philippine Ambassador-Designate to Canada Jose Victor V. Chan-Gonzaga addressed the new dual citizens who hailed from the provinces of Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario, assuring them of the support of the Embassy in initiatives that uplift the welfare of the Filipino community.
“I hope that you will look at yourselves not only as Filipinos or as Canadians, but Filipino-Canadians and always be that bridge between our two countries and peoples, and may you contribute to strengthening our relationship with Canada and building the Filipino community in Canada, which is now the second largest diaspora in the world,“ Ambassador-Designate Chan-Gonzaga said.
