Pope speaks to Netanyahu after strike on Gaza church
ANSA, Philippine News Agency
VATICAN – The Vatican said that Pope Leo XIV spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday after three people were killed by a strike on the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza on Thursday.
The parish priest, Father Gabriel Romanelli, was among 10 people wounded in the strike.
“During the conversation, the Holy Father renewed his appeal for a revival of negotiations and the achievement of a ceasefire and an end to the war,” the Vatican Press Office said.
He again expressed his concern about the tragic humanitarian situation of the population in Gaza, whose children, elderly, and sick are paying an agonizing price.
He also reiterated the urgent need to protect places of worship and, especially, the faithful and all people in Palestine and Israel.
