MANILA – Crime rate in Metro Manila dropped by 8 percent from June 2 to 18, particularly in the eight focus crimes, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Thursday.

The 247 crime incidents, according to NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, are lower compared to 270 incidents recorded from May 16 to June 1.

The downward trend in criminality comes shortly after Gen. Nicolas Torre III as Philippine National Police (PNP) chief on June 2, and has implemented swift and responsive public service.

“While there is decrease in index crimes, the objective of the Chief PNP, Gen.

Torre III is to go beyond statistics and ensure that the swift and responsive service of the PNP will translate to a genuine feeling of safety and security of the people. This will be the anchor of our actions and our ultimate direction,” Aberin said in a statement.

The eight focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury and rape or crimes against persons; and robbery, theft, carnapping and motorcycle theft or crimes against property.

Among the specific crime categories, Aberin said rape cases declined from 28 to 18, homicide from 41 to 31, and robbery from 43 to 34.

The NCRPO has five districts — the Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD), and Eastern Police District (EPD).

Among all police districts, the NPD recorded the most significant decrease in focus crimes, with total incidents dropping from 56 to 29 during the second period.

“This outstanding performance underscores the effectiveness of localized crime prevention strategies supported by strong leadership and close coordination with the community,” Aberin said.

Aberin said the NCRPO continues to call on the public to support crime prevention efforts by reporting criminal activities and suspicious behavior through its official hotlines or by dialing 911.

“Through strong community partnership and sustained police presence, NCRPO remains steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of Metro Manila,” he said.
