ROME – Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Pope Leo XIV for offering to host peace talks between Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican, but clarified that no final decision has been made on the venue.
“Everyone is aware of the Pope’s initiative,” Peskov said, as quoted by Russian news agency Tass. “There has also been a statement from the Vatican.
”
“The Russian side is, of course, thankful to all those who are willing to contribute,” he added.
However, Peskov emphasized that “no specific decisions have been made yet on where possible future negotiations should continue.”
