MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is open to reconciling with everyone from the opposition and with different political views for the stability of the Philippines, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro clarified that Marcos’ openness for reconciliation is not just for a particular person.
The reconciliation is for the people, not for the personal interests of others. Let us remember, it’s clear, I will repeat what the President said, he wants to reconcile with everyone so that there will be stability, what needs to be done can be done, and the work of the government will not be derailed),” Castro said.
He does not want to have a tiff with anyone. Squabble just slows down the work of the government because the President becomes the subject of smear campaign and victim of fake news),” she added.
In the first episode of his podcast uploaded on his official Facebook page on Monday, Marcos expressed his willingness to mend ties with the Dutertes to have “stability and peace” in the country.
Castro said reconciliation with everyone, not just the Dutertes, is the “right thing” for Marcos to do, considering that he is “the father of the country.”
She said Marcos does not want any trouble, stressing that the Chief Executive intends to have good relations with all Filipinos.
When he was asked in the podcast if he was open for reconciliation, he did not say anything about not enforcing the law. He did not say anything about forgiving someone who violated the law. So, the reconciliation was being offered to avoid trouble and achieve stability and so he could fulfill his promise to the Filipinos),” Castro said.
She also stressed that reconciliation should not come with any conditions because that is what is best “for the people and for the country.”
He will sacrifice himself even if he is the one being slandered, even if he is the one being given the wrong job and subject of fake videos. That is what a father of the country should really do,” she said.
