MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to embrace the spirit of compassion and service as he joined the Muslim community in celebrating Eid’l Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan on Monday.

In his message, Marcos said that beyond the festival’s religious significance, the true essence of Eid lies in extending hands to those in need and spreading joy within communities.

He described Eid’l Fitr as “a time of dignified worship, deep reflection, and solemn prayer.”

“In spirit, the Festival of Breaking the Fast is more than a celebration; it is a testament to our desire for shared humanity, strengthening bonds of family and friendship, as well as unity among our peers,” Marcos said.

“Beyond the values that Ramadan emphasized, let us continue to be inspired to extend our hands in service, uplift those in need, and help find joy in those who seek it,” he added.

The President pointed out that true unity and peace can only be achieved by living a life full of compassion and inclusivity, values that are core to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“Only through living with compassion and inclusivity can we appreciate and understand what Prophet Muhammad sought to accomplish—a life where harmony and love prevail upon us all,” he said.

Marcos also highlighted the shared responsibility of all Filipinos to support each other, especially during trying times.

He called on everyone to embrace acts of kindness, engage in meaningful conversations, and participate in activities that unite communities and foster a sense of solidarity.

“May the acts of kindness, engaging conversations, and delightful activities that bring communities together define our actions moving forward,” the President said.

“Let us continue to embody the virtues of dedication and faith so we can foster a more equitable and peaceful Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.

On Sunday evening, Bangsamoro Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani announced that Eid’l Fitr will be officially observed on Monday.

This came after the crescent moon was sighted during simultaneous observations conducted by designated moon-sighting teams of the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’ across various locations in the Bangsamoro Region.

Monday has been declared a regular non-working day across the Bangsamoro Region.

Earlier, Malacañang declared Tuesday, April 1 as a holiday for the observance of Eid’l Fitr.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the two most important celebrations in Islam, the second-largest religion in the country. It is observed by the Muslim community after the month-long Ramadan fasting.
