DOH debunks post on HIV-contaminated blood sugar tests
By Joyce Ann L. Rocamora, Philippine News Agency
MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday debunked claims circulating online that a medical professional was reportedly going house-to-house to conduct blood sugar tests using needles contaminated with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
In a Jan. 10 advisory released on Saturday, the DOH said the information is “fake” and reiterated the Philippine National Police’s statement it was a “scare tactic with no factual basis.”
The post claimed that an individual masquerading as a member of the “Faculty of Medicine” is visiting houses for a blood sugar test using needles allegedly contaminated with HIV.
“The DOH urges the public not to share unverified claims that may cause unnecessary alarm,” the DOH said.
The DOH encouraged the public to source information only from legitimate sources and official platforms.
