MANILA – About 3,000 job vacancies in Taiwan, especially factory work in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industry, are available for Filipinos, a labor attaché said Saturday.

At a news forum in Quezon City, Labor Attaché and Migrant Workers Office – Taipei Director Cesar Chavez Jr. said the Philippines had about 15,000 job orders in Taiwan in 2024 alone.

To fill these up, the government has been organizing various job fairs, with the recent ones held in Quezon City, Ilocos Region, Bulacan, and Cabanatuan City, to prevent illegal recruitment and trafficking.

“As of now, we have pending 3,000 job orders to be filled up. Kaya kung meron pa tayong mga kababayan na gustong magtrabaho sa Taiwan, tingnan lang nila sa DMW (Department of Migrant Workers) website (For those who want to work in Taiwan, they just have to check the DMW website),” Chavez said.

He disclosed that the DMW is also requesting the Commission on Elections to exempt government-led job fairs from the 2025 election spending ban.

“Marami rin ang made-deprive kung ititigil itong mga job fairs, local and overseas. Kung magkakaroon po (exemption), ay magkakaroon po tayo ng tuloy-tuloy na job fair para mahabol natin itong mga pending quota and job orders (Many will be deprived if we halt these job fairs, local and overseas. If we secure an exemption, our job fairs will be continuous and we could reach our quota and fill the job orders),” he said.

More than 160,000 Filipinos are working in Taiwan, the majority of whom are in the field of AI and semiconductors, with a small number working in Taiwanese households.
