MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Around 1,308 families or 3,097 individuals in La Union province evacuated on Sunday due to the threats of Typhoon Pepito (international name Man-yi).

Based on the report of the La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the evacuees are from the towns of Bangar, Balaoan, Aringay, Santo Tomas, Bauang, Rosario, Bacnotan, Agoo, Caba, San Juan, Sudipen, Luna, Naguilian and Burgos.

Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David personally led the distribution of relief packs to the evacuees from Sunday night until Monday morning.

Around 280 families have received food packs in Bangar, more than 50 families in Balaoan, 100 families in Bacnotan, and 101 families in Bauang.

Distribution is ongoing in other localities where there are evacuees.

Information obtained by the Philippine News Agency from the La Union Provincial Information Office (PIO) said the evacuees might return to their residences within the day if the weather permits.

“There were no reported casualties or injured individuals,” the PIO said.

Classes in all levels both in public and private schools as well as work in government offices, except those in frontline services, have been suspended on Monday due to the effects of the typhoon.

La Union is among the areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is hoisted based on the weather bureau’s 11 a.m. bulletin.
