At the same meeting he said he regretted getting “the so-called vaccine” and said it was about “control on the population,” John Rustad validated the conspiracy theory that government institutions inflated COVID-19 data to make the pandemic look worse than it really was.

The claim was put to Rustad by Timothy Conlon, an anti-vax activist who was fired for not getting vaccinated. Rustad said “You’re absolutely right. I think institutions have done that.”

Timothy Conlon: These institutions are simply padding the statistics and creating a situation that makes things look worse than they actually are. And the messaging involved, I find disquieting. And I’m wondering if Mr. Rustad has any inclination towards investigating these institutions or looking into the ways these institutions have been used by the BC NDP to focus messaging to create the perception that COVID-19 is worse than it actually is. Does that make any sense?

John Rustad: You’re absolutely right. I think institutions have done that.
