PH-Singapore pact elevates protection of Flipino nurses

MANILA – Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured heightened protection and just compensation for Filipino healthcare workers in Singapore with the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Philippines and the host country.
At a briefing in Malacanang on Wednesday, Cacdac said the recent MOU signing on Aug. 15 was a welcome development as it assured fair treatment of Filipino nurses.
“The agreement, essentially, is a measure of protection for our Filipino health workers in Singapore.
They’re already amply protected, but this one heightens the protection and ensures fair, ethical, and sustainable recruitment for our OFW nurses,” Cacdac said.
At the same time, it guarantees “just, fair, and commensurate compensation.”
“Our nurses will be paid similarly to their Singapore nurse counterparts. So there will be no discrimination in that sense,” he added.
Measures to effectively reintegrate Filipino nurses when they eventually return to the country are also included in the measure.
