MANILA – The National Privacy Commission (NPC) on Monday warned the public against posting sensitive videos of minors online that would expose them to bullying and other forms of abuse.

The NPC made the appeal after a video of a child’s circumcision went viral on social media.

In a statement released Monday, the agency said such sensitive content, especially when it involves minors, would expose them to potential cyberbullying and “infringes upon their privacy and dignity.”

“The unauthorized sharing of videos or images involving children not only violates their privacy rights, but it may also lead to serious psychological and social consequences,” it said.

NPC urged the public to report such videos immediately to the respective platform administrators.

“Most social media and video-sharing platforms have mechanisms in place to address and remove content that violates privacy standards,” it said.

It also called on healthcare providers to remind parents and guardians against taking pictures and videos of these sensitive medical operations and the importance of responsible social media usage.
