Tragic Incident in Sweden: Construction Elevator Crash Claims Five Lives
On Monday, a tragic elevator accident claimed the lives of five individuals at a construction site on the outskirts of Stockholm, prompting an investigation by Sweden’s Prosecution Authority, as reported on Tuesday. The incident occurred in Sundbyberg, north of the city, where the construction elevator fell 20 meters (66 feet), according to Kurt Jonsson, a spokesman for the rescue service, cited by Swedish news agency TT.
The Prosecution Authority indicated that the ongoing preliminary investigation classifies the incident as work environment crime, including causing the death of another. The statement highlighted the ongoing efforts to identify all the deceased individuals and conduct a technical investigation at the site.
The construction company overseeing the project reported that the 5 deceased workers were employed by subcontractors. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continues.
