Italy PM Meloni to leave partner after sleazy comments
ROME – Premier Giorgia Meloni on Friday announced she was separating from her partner and father of her daughter after sleazy comments to a female colleague and seemingly admitting to an affair.
Meloni, 46, and TV presenter Andrea Giambruno, 42, have been together almost 10 years and have a seven-year-old daughter, Ginevra.
In the off-air recordings, broadcast by a satirical TV show Thursday night, Giambruno was heard telling a woman that she has to be in a sex group.
He was also heard apparently admitting to an affair with another female colleague.
In her announcement, Meloni said: “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here.”
“I thank him for the wonderful years we spent together, for the difficulties we went through, and for giving me the most important thing in my life, which is our daughter Ginevra.”
“Our paths have long since parted, and the time has come to take note of this,” added Meloni.
The premier also warned those who wanted “to weaken me by hitting me at home” would never succeed.
Giambruno, a host on a Berlusconi channel, was recently criticized for victim-blaming when he said that young women should not get drunk if they did not want to be raped. (ANSA)
