MANILA – The Covid-19 positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased to 5.6 percent as of June 28, the OCTA Research Group said Friday.
The positivity rate, in epidemiology, refers to the number of individuals testing positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in a certain area.
The NCR’s testing positivity rate in the past seven days is “less than the 6.6 percent reported on June 21,” OCTA Research Group Fellow, Dr. Guido David, said over Twitter.
“The positivity rate is still decreasing but the rate of decline has slowed (down),” he added.
Meanwhile, the national positivity rate further dipped to 7.4 percent as of June 29.
Earlier, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said he would recommend to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. the lifting of the state of public health emergency due to Covid-19.
He said there is no more public health emergency at the moment as Covid-19 is just one of the diseases being monitored by the Department of Health (DOH) because medicines for its symptoms and vaccines for its prevention are available.
The DOH on Monday reported a 20 percent decrease in the daily average of Covid-19 cases for the week of June 19-25, compared to the preceding week (June 12-18).
As of June 29, the country has logged 4,164,360 Covid-19 infections with 7,896 active cases; 4,089,980 recoveries; and 66,484 deaths.
