Zubiri signs Maharlika Fund, 2 other enrolled bills
The MIF bill, along with two other enrolled measures — the Estate Tax Amnesty Extension Act and the Act recognizing Baler, Aurora, as the birthplace of Philippine Surfing — were signed by Zubiri after it was personally brought by Senate Secretary Renato Bantug to Washington D.C.
“The Maharlika bill is a priority measure, and the Estate Tax Amnesty Extension is very time-sensitive. Marami nang naghihintay sa mga bills na ito (Many are waiting for this bills). Fortunately the enrolled copies were already prepared by the time Secretary Bantug was set to join us in Washington,” Zubiri said.
Zubiri said Bantug is part of the Senate contingent for the working visit and was able to bring along with him copies of the enrolled measures which were all signed by Zubiri in the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C.
“This was at no expense to the Philippine government, kasi kasama naman talaga namin si Secretary Bantug sa Senate delegation. Isinabay na lang dalhin itong (because Secretary Bantug is really with us in the Senate delegation. He just brought with him these) enrolled bills,” he explained.
The signing was witnessed by Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez and Senator Francis Tolentino who is also part of the working visit.
Zubiri is currently in Washington D.C. to hold scheduled meetings with members of the United States Congress and US government agencies.
