LTOP to launch guide book to boost competency of drivers
MANILA – The Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP) is set to launch on Friday an updated version of a driver’s manual intended to raise the competency level of Filipino professional drivers.
Titled “Gabay sa Ligtas na Pagmamaneho,” the latest version of the manual has gained the nod of Malacanang as it contains new information that will help local drivers conform with international standards, LTOP national president Orlando Marquez Sr. said Thursday.
Marquez said earlier versions of the manual failed to secure the government’s endorsement as a comprehensive resource material because it lacked certain information deemed critical for today’s professional driver.
Among the subject matters discussed in the newly printed guide book are the more stringent requirements for obtaining a professional driver’s license versus a non-professional license.
“The new manual stresses the greater accountability of professional drivers, something which is not often made clear to drivers of public utility vehicles today,” Marquez said.
He added the revised manual contains key information that every driver must know, such as securing and renewing a driver’s license, recognizing and understanding road signs, exercising road etiquette, and adhering to road safety norms.
The 161-page manual also contains a check list on motor vehicle maintenance and even some information on what to do should one get involved in a road accident.
Marquez further said the manual was originally authored by Nick Valerio, Jr. and was later updated by LTOP as a standardized guide to its members and prospective members.
