MANILA – Tropical Depression (TD) Maymay on Wednesday afternoon continued to bring rains over parts of Luzon while maintaining its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
The weather bureau said moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains will continue over Cagayan, the northern portion of Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao until Thursday.
Light to moderate, with at times heavy rains are also forecast over Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.
Scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas to these hazards, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over the eastern portion of Isabela (San Mariano, Dinapigue, San Guillermo, San Pablo, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, San Agustin, Palanan, Divilacan, Jones, Maconacon, Tumauini, Echague, Cabagan), the eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela, Nagtipunan, Aglipay, Saguday), and the northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dilasag, Dipaculao)
Strong breeze to near gale strength winds will prevail in these areas.
Occasional gusts reaching strong to gale-force strength associated with the enhanced northeasterly surface windflow and its convergence with the TD circulation may also be experienced over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region in the next 24 hours.
Rough to very rough seas will prevail over the seaboards of northern and central Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of southern Luzon.
Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
The TD was last tracked 180 km. east of Casiguran, Aurora, and is forecast to continue moving westward towards the eastern coast of Isabela or Aurora.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecast “Maymay” to deteriorate into a remnant low within the next 12 hours.
