MANILA – Authorities said Wednesday no damage was reported at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), as well as other airports in the country due to the magnitude 7 earthquake that shook Abra.
“There are no affected flights. There are also no reported damage on runways, taxiways, and terminal buildings (of the NAIA),” the Manila International Airport Authority said.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines also said its flights to Laoag would proceed as scheduled.
“Our flights remain unaffected and will be proceeding as scheduled,” spokesperson Cielo Villaluna told reporters.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) also announced that there was no reported damage in the airports in Laoag, Vigan, Lingayen, Rosales, and San Fernando.
An assessment of the runway, apron, terminal buildings, and other officers was conducted in those airports, it said.
The CAAP said the Baguio Airport is being monitored due to minor cracks discovered in the facility.
Other airports in Plaridel, Alabat, Jomalig, Baler, Iba, Mamburao, Pinamalayan, Calapan, San Jose, Lubang, Marinduque, Romblon, Sangley, and Cabanatuan incurred no damage, it added.
A magnitude 7 earthquake jolted Abra on Wednesday, with its epicenter located 3 km. northwest of the municipality of Tayum.
The tremor was felt in many areas across Luzon.

This earthquake sets alarm to Fipinos, good thing that Naia doesn’t have any recorded damage as well as on the other parts of Metro Manila. Stay safe with the flights and check everything to make sure that it is really safe to travel.Sad thing was in Abra and northern part which leaves a devaststing traces frkm the shocking earthquake. We all have to be ready aftershocks are still going to happen and I am really sad knowing that my co-Filipinos are suffering from this disaster. Let’s just hope that this won’t happen again.

It’s wonderful how structurally sound our airports are to withstand the powerful earthquake we experienced yesterday. Furthermore To limit and minimize earthquake damage and harm, it is far better if every public building is earthquake-resistant.
