PBBM vows better support for athletes; hails Pinays’ historic win

MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has promised to step up government support for national athletes in honing their potentials, as he congratulated the Philippine Women’s National Football team Filipinas for its historic win over weekend.
“We have to do better in terms of government support when it comes to our athletes. Medyo nabawasan nung nawala ‘yung sports sa eskuwelahan, when DECS (Department of Education, Culture and Sports) became Department of Education alone, the emphasis on sport became a little bit less,” Marcos said during the team’s courtesy call in Malacañang on Wednesday.
“But that is something that we really should encourage because sport means more than just playing games. It means developing discipline, learning how to sacrifice, learning to be gracious in victory, learning to work with other people as a team,” he added.
In congratulating the members of team Filipinas, Marcos said their feat brought so much joy to their countrymen and made them proud of being Filipino.
The win, he added, “is the greatest gift that you have given your country.”
“So I thank you very much, and I congratulate you for this great achievement and great championship,” said Marcos.
The President also praised the team for its sacrifices and dedication, particularly as it waded through hurdles caused by pandemic-induced restrictions.
Despite the health crisis, team Filipinas members were able to maintain their fitness, skills and teamwork, he noted.
The team made history Sunday after bagging the country’s first Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Football championship by dominating the Southeast Asia powerhouse Thailand, 3-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Prior to facing Thailand, Filipinas ousted Vietnam, another formidable foe, in the semifinals.
Its latest win is expected to create higher expectations as the team prepares for next year’s FIFA showcase to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Isang pagpupugay sa lahat ng mga atleta na nagrepresenta sa ating watawat sa ibat ibang panig ng mundo sa larAngan ng Sports.Hindi matutumbasan ang inyong galing at dedikasyon na maipanalo ang bawat laban sa kabila ng mga sakripisyo at hirap maiuwi lang ang panalo at titulo at maging pride ng lahat ng mga Pilipino.

Sana patuloy ang suporta para sa ating atleta, hindi kasi biro ang kanilang mga ginagawa, intense training at mataas na expectation ang kanilang nararanasan sa tuwing sumasali sila. Kaya dapat lang parangalan at bigyan silang pansin sa dami nang kanilang sakripisyo makuha lang at masungkit ang miniminthi nating parangal

Salamat President sa pagpugay sa ating mga mahal na atleta na siyang nagpresenta sa ating bansa sa larangan nang sports. Salamat mga atleta sa sakripisyong iyong mga nagawa, kahit hindi man kayo nanalo o nanalo man kayo ay tatangapin namin nang buong buo gayun din ang ating presidente, masakit man ang iyong dinanas nung kayo pa ay nagtraining, matutumbasan naman ito kapag nakamit nyo na ang ninanais nyong parangal. Mabuhay ang mga Atletang pilipino.

I am so glad that our athletes are finally receiving the right amount of support and attention they deserve. I am aware of how our other athletes before suffer first from a lot of difficulties in order to compete in other country or in any other competition locally. I just feel sad knowing that they have to beg just to get help. So I really want to express a warm thank you to our President for this. Our athletes deserves these as they are a great help also to our economy. They are not just there to play but also to represent us Filipino. The name of our country is always with them, and other country will be familiar of our country and it can help to the improvement of our economy and tourism. They are not only fighting for themselves but for us Filipino also, so let’s give them the support they needed always in all ways. Do not hesitate to help them.

Ang ating mga Atleta ay yaman ng ating bayan.Dugo at pawis ang kanilang puhunan upang makamit ang medalyang kanilang inaasam at magdala ng karangalan sa ating bansa.kaya Nararapat na suportahan ng ating gobyerno sa financial na aspeto ang kagawaran ng Sports sa ating bansa. Dahil napag iiwanan na tayo ng ibang lahi sa mga hightech na gamit at advance traning.Salamat pangulo sa iyong tulong.ito ay malaking motivation sa ating mga atleta na mas lalong magpursige magtraning,mas dadami ang maiinspire na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang pangarap mas dadami ang oportunidad na makamit natin ang medalyang ating inaasam asam. Naway ito na maging Simula ng pag unlad natin sa larangan ng Sports
