‘Agaton’ agri damage mounts to P725-M: DA
MANILA – The Department of Agriculture (DA) reported on Monday increased damage and losses to the agricultural sector amounting to PHP725.2 million in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Agaton’s onslaught.
The latest bulletin showed it has affected 19,424 farmers thus far, particularly in Western and Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and Caraga, with 17,925 hectares of agricultural lands damaged.
This equates to 41,580 metric tons of total volume loss, with rice production worst hit, reaching 92.68 percent or 40,122 metric tons of loss, amounting to PHP672.2 million
Moreover, loss to high-value crop production was estimated at PHP24.7 million; loss to corn production at PHP21.1 million; and loss to livestock and poultry, including chicken, swine, carabao, duck, and goat, at PHP7.2 million.
The figures are still subject to validation, as “additional damage and losses are expected” in Agaton-hit areas, according to the DA-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operation Center.
The DA has earlier assured affected farmers of aid readily available including the provision of “rice, corn, and assorted vegetables seeds; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry; Survival and Recovery Program of Agricultural Credit Policy Council; indemnification fund under Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation; and access to Quick Response Fund for rehabilitation.”
As of Monday, 16 cities and municipalities have declared a state of calamity including Sara, Lemery, and Passi in Iloilo; Cateel, Davao Oriental; Trento, Agusan del Sur; and Compostela, Laak, Mabini, Maco, Maragusan, Mawab, Monkayo, Montevista, Nabunturan, New Bataan, and Pantukan in Davao de Oro, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

I’m very sad with this news especially that it tremendously affected our economy again. Typhoons and other natural calamities are no longer new especially here in the Philippines. I’m not at expert in geology or science but I know that typhoons and other natural disasters have something to do with climate change and if we couldn’t eradicate fully climate we must atleast lessen its effect by starting to care about the nature and by being aware of the bad possibilities that might occur if the climate continue to get worst. The loss brought by typhoon agaton wil surely affect the entire Philippines especially the places where it hit and this must be addressed,the government of the Philippines must do something to help the typhoon victims especially that most of them are poor and it’s the government responsibility to give shelter and comfort to these people. We should let the government do their jobs as public servants. Prioritize the poor ones?

Wala talagang ligtas when disaster hits us. Pero ang tanging magagawa natin ay ang magtulungan, we Fipilinos are known for pagiging RESILIENT na kahit anuman dagok ang dumaan nakangiti parin at patuloy lang sa buhay, sama samang aahon sa kahit anong pagsubok.

Magandang Araw po! Sana may katumbas rin po na Tulong at Ayuda para sa mga Magsasaka natin, bawat quoted amount na agri damages para makabangon muli ang ating mga Magsasaka. Nakakapanghinayang lang po dahil hanggang estimate lang sa damage ang kongkretong Plano hanggang sa Rehabilitation, ito ang gusto naming malaman mula sa ating Gobyerno.

This shows, that the government must put efforts and more funds on the different agencies that covers the protection of our environment, in this way maybe we could atleast prevent or lessen the possible casualties if calamity strikes.
This is a lesson to us that we humans must start changing our lives, we must start to be a responsible nature or environment protector not a distroyer.
We must start planting more trees again, dispose our waste properly, avoid too much use of technologies, conserve water and especially the government must stop or ban mining.

Madaming pinsala ang iniwan ni Agaton lalo sa mga lugar na apektado ng bagyo.Malaki ang epekto at kawalan lalo sa mga magsasaka at mga may negosyo ng paghahayopan ang iniwang pinsala mula sa pananalasa ng bagyong Agaton lalo sa mga lugar sa Bisayas.Malaking pagkalugi at panghihinayang ang naramdaman ng mga may ari ng sakahan at mga hayopan lalo sa Agrikultura.Sa halip na aanihin na nila ang mga palay at iba pang produkto na inaasahan nilang magsasalba sa kanila mula sa kahirapan sa isang saglit lang nawala lahat pati mga tirahan nila.Ipagdasal natin sila na sana makabangon mula sa trahedyang pinagdaanan nila.

Isa sa malaking epekto ng climate change ang pagkakaroon ng malalakas na bago at ang unang unang nahihirapan sa ganitong sitwasyon ay ang ating mga magsasaka. Batay sa datos na inilathala sa article, nagkakahalaga ng 725.5 milyon ang nasira sa sektor ng agrikultura at talagang nakakalungkot ang pangyayaring ganito. Sana ang susunod na maihahalal na pangulo sa Pilipinas ay magkaroon ng pansin sa ating agrikultura para supurtuhan ito. Sapagkat, agrikultura ang isa sa bumuhuhay sa ating ekonomiya kayat kailangan nito ng sapat na pondo at suporta mula sa ating pamahalaan.

Typhoon really left a great impact to the affected areas in the Philippines. As by computing the total damage it cause, it is really devastating. A lot of people have been suffering and also there are some who died because of the backlash of this typhoon. This typhoon didn’t just left damage to the people but also to the economy of the country. This is a natural calamity that everyone didn’t expect and doesn’t want to happen but it did. So I hope the government will extend all the help these people needed and may they have the help they deserve. It’s so hard living when you lost everything that you have, you don’t know where to start and how can you survive a day. Let’s pray that these fellow Filipinos of us will get through this challenge and let’s help them also.
