MANILA – Philippine Army (PA) Maj. Gen. Romulo Manuel Jr. assumed as the new deputy chief-of-staff for intelligence (J-2) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday.
Manuel, who donned his second star, replaced Maj. Gen. Alex Luna during the change of chief of office ceremony at the General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
AFP deputy chief-of-staff, Navy Vice Adm. Rommel Anthony Reyes presided over the ceremony.
“Maj. Gen. Manuel’s sterling achievements, formidable ‘game-changing ‘capabilities, and enhanced individual competencies will always be associated with him as the ‘King of Battle.’ As he assumes higher responsibility, I am confident that he will sustain the progress started by his predecessors,” Reyes said.
Prior to his designation as J-2, Manuel served as the PA’s Artillery Regiment commander.
Manuel also served as PA assistant chief-of-staff for plans (G-5), and, head of the field artillery department of the Combat Arms School, Training and Doctrine Command.
As the AFP’s new intelligence chief, Manuel will take the lead in formulating plans, programs, and policies to provide the AFP chief-of-staff with strategic guidance in the area of intelligence.
“The Armed Forces is very much grateful to have trustworthy leaders and Commanders who can lead and positively impact our institution. We face every battle with confidence knowing that we have them at our backs,” Reyes said.
