Voter signup suspended in ECQ, MECQ zones: Comelec
MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has suspended voter registration activities in several areas in the country that have been declared under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ (MECQ) for more than a week.
In separate advisories posted on its Facebook account, the poll body said voter registration and issuance of voter’s certification is suspended in all Offices of Election Officer (OEOs) in cities/municipalities, three provinces, and one city from August 6-15 due to MECQ.
“Suspension of voter registration and issuance of voter’s certification in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs)* in Cavite, Lucena City in Quezon, Rizal, and Iloilo Province from August 6-15, 2021 due to MECQ,” it said.
For areas under ECQ, namely Laguna, the cities of Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro, there will be no voter registration in OEOs and the issuance of voter’s certification is also suspended on the said days.
Aside from the registration in OECs, also suspended are satellite registration in barangays, malls, other venues, in these areas under MECQ and ECQ.
Earlier, the poll body has suspended voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR) from August 6 to 20, after it was placed under ECQ.
The nationwide voter registration resumed on September 1, 2020 and will run until September 30, 2021.
The registration is being conducted in connection with the May 9, 2022 national and local elections.
