Manila vax drive breaches 1-M mark

MANILA – The nation’s capital city Manila has breached the millionth mark in the administration of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccines on Monday.

As of 9:04 a.m., the city has administered 1,000,021 doses.

The Manila Public Information Office said 657,748 have received their first dose while 342,273 are already fully vaccinated.

Three hundred first doses for all five priority groups were allotted on Monday in six hospitals each — Sta. Ana Hospital, Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Tondo, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Tondo, and Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital in Binondo.

Second-dose Sinovac jabs were administered in malls and schools in all six districts while second-dose Sputnik vaccine was rolled out at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate.

“Huwag tayong matatakot. Huwag tayong susuko. Huwag tayong mawawalan ng pag-asa. Mananalo tayo. Siguradong mananalo tayo (Let us not be afraid. Let us not give up. Do not lose hope. We will win. We will surely win),” Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said during the flag-raising ceremony outside the City Hall.

Health officials continue to reiterate that beating the Covid-19 pandemic will also entail following minimum public health and safety protocols like frequent handwashing, safe physical distancing, and wearing of mask and face shield.
