10-storey school building to rise in Tondo, Manila
MANILA – A new Rosauro Almario Elementary School will soon rise on Kagitingan Street in Tondo, Manila.
The city allocated PHP1.9 billion for the construction of a 10-storey building with 227 classrooms, 12 offices, a library on the second floor, an auditorium and a gymnasium on the 10th floor, two outdoor basketball courts with a retractable goal that is convertible to a football field on the ground floor, two roof deck outdoor sport and exercise area, eight elevators, and seven stairs nodes.
One of three city public schools that will be modernized, Almario ES will be fully airconditioned.
Founded in 1967, Almario ES was named after a Tondo-born Filipino writer who also worked for various government offices, local government, and as city councilor.
The Dr. Alejandro Albert Elementary School in Sampaloc will also be reconstructed for PHP2 billion while the Manila Science High School on Taft Avenue has a budget of PHP1.3 billion.
Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said it is his dream for every child in the city’s public schools to experience the comfort and amenities of students in private schools.
“We will empower the public education system by providing enough facility and good studying environment by putting all necessary recipe sa isang (in a) public education,” he said during Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony.
Domagoso finished his elementary schooling at Almario ES.
He said now is the right time to rebuild and modernize the schools while face-to-face classes are still prohibited due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic
Division of City Schools Superintendent Dr. Maria Magdalena Lim extended his gratitude to the city government on behalf of 300,000 students and 11,000 teachers and employees of Manila City Schools.
