‘Fan Girl’ arriving on Netflix on June 17
Award-winning “Fan Girl” will soon be available on streaming platform Netflix this month.
In a tweet on Friday, June 4, Netflix Philippines announced, “You could say I’m obsessed with Fan Girl coming to Netflix on June 17.”
The film’s director, Antoinette Jadaone, also shared the news in an Instagram post.
“Ayyieeeeeee nilapag na ni @netflix ang balita (Netflix has dropped the news)!” she said.
The movie, starring Paulo Avelino and Charlie Dizon, was one of the official entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) last year. It tells the story of teenager Jane’s obsession with her idol, Paulo. In the film’s trailer, Jane claims to be the celebrity’s number one fan.
“Fan Girl” won big at the 46th MMFF Gabi ng Parangal last December. It bagged eight awards, including best editing, best cinematography, best sound, best screenplay, and best picture. Antoinette was named best director, while Charlie and Paulo took home the awards for best actress and best actor in a leading role, respectively.
Last year’s MMFF switched to online because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Before MMFF, “Fan Girl” had its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF).
Just last April 2021 at the fourth Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards for Movies, “Fan Girl” won awards for best actor, best actress, best director, best editing, best picture, best screenplay, and best sound.
