It was in 2018 when it was reported that writer Buggette Tan and artist Kajo Baldisimo’s supernatural crime comic book series, Trese, was included on the list of anime titles that will be heading soon to Netflix. Many were left curious as not much details were given at that time until Netflix Philippines fired up fans after almost two years as it revealed the first look of the animated series.

On a photo it posted on Twitter on Tuesday, October 27, Netflix Philippines showed Alexandra Trese, the heroine in the story set in Manila, looking at the city’s skyline at night through a glass window.

Aswangs of Manila, beware: Alexandra Trese is coming for you. Enjoy this very first look at TRESE, coming soon on Netflix,” it tweeted, along with three Philippine flag emojis.

The streaming giant’s other tweet shows a much-closer look of Alexandra holding a blood-stained weapon.

“It’s over for you tikbalangs. What are you most excited to see when TRESE comes to Netflix??” the caption of the photo read.

Other information about Trese such as when its trailer will be out, how long it will be aired, and how many episodes and season it will have remain kept under wraps, but Netflix Philippines confirmed that it will be released in 2021 and will go global.

The series written and illustrated by two Filipinos is also directed by a storyboard artist with Filipino roots, Jay Oliva, who worked on projects including Wonder Woman and The Legend of Korra, and will be produced by BASE Entertainment.

While Trese fans are waiting for the release date, here are 13 reasons why other viewers should watch the series.
