MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday reported 12 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total to 5,401 as of June 9.

The agency said the discrepancy in the figures is due to corrected “double entries” from a Middle East country. The overall tally previously stands at 5,405.

At present, there are 1,366 recoveries, 134 deaths, and 1,854 active cases in the Middle East/Africa, with two additional countries in Africa logging Covid-19 cases among Filipinos.

The DFA registered 64 new recoveries and nine new deaths, raising the number to 2,295 and 380, respectively.

“Despite the corrected lower total overall, regional comparative data shows that the Middle East remains to have the highest numbers of Covid positive cases, cases under treatment, and those recovered. While the Americas still have the highest number of fatalities at 153, followed by the Middle East at 134,” the DFA said in a statement.

Of the total 2,726 Filipinos undergoing treatment abroad, 140 are in the Asia Pacific region, 467 in Europe, 1,854 in the Middle East/Africa, and 265 are in the Americas.
