MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday reported no deaths from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) among Filipinos abroad but 24 new cases were registered, bringing the total to 2,869.

The death toll remains at 340 — two from the Asia Pacific region, 91 in Europe, 97 in the Middle East/Africa, and 150 in the Americas.

Meanwhile, the overall recoveries now stand at 975 after 28 more Filipinos recovered mostly from the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe.

“The latest figures continue to highlight the different stages of the Covid (19) story across the four major geographic regions where Europe and (the) the Middle East still have the highest number of recorded Filipinos infected with Covid-19, Asia and the Pacific has the fewest number of cases and highest in recoveries, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities,” the DFA said.

It said experts are currently studying why fatalities are comparatively lower in the Asia Pacific region compared to other areas.

Currently, some 1,554 overseas Filipinos are undergoing treatment –137 in the Asia Pacific region, 467 in Europe, 682 in the Middle East/Africa, and 268 in the Americas.

On repatriation, the DFA said 31,352 overseas Filipinos have returned to Manila since the Covid-19 outbreak, 65.8 percent or 20,633 of whom are sea-based and 34.2 percent or 10,719 are land-based.
