MANILA – A total of 167 stranded and distressed Filipinos from Macau will be repatriated to Manila through a chartered flight on Saturday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will respectively bring home 137 undocumented and irregular Filipino workers and 30 OWWA members, the department said in a news release.

The combined groups of repatriates will board a special Air Macau flight and are expected to arrive in the afternoon.

Since the beginning of February, the Philippine Consulate General in Macau has been coordinating with the Macau government to arrange the repatriation flight because travel restrictions have resulted in the lack of direct flights back to Manila.

The Consulate has also been attending to the needs of Filipinos in Macau.

In coordination with the Department of Health, the DFA said it would ensure that all Filipinos who will disembark will be asymptomatic.

However, if some of them display symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), they will be immediately brought to a medical facility for further observation and treatment if necessary, it said.
