2 arrested for selling dog meat in Nueva Ecija

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — Two persons were arrested for selling dog meat in an anti-rabies operation in Mabini Extension, Barangay Bantug Bulalo here on Friday night.

Lt. Col. Ponciano Zafra, city police chief, identified the suspects as Catalino Cruz, 46; and Lourdez Cajucom, 51, both of the said village.

Zafra said the operation was hatched on information from Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) researcher Alan Pekitpekit.

Operatives seized eight kilos of dog meat during the operation, Zafra added.

Records showed that a raid on May 21, 2019 in the same store yielded 10 kilos of dog meat but the suspects eluded arrest.

The suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9482 or Anti-Rabies Act and Republic Act 10536 (Amended Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines).
