‘Healing priest’ banned from celebrating Mass in Cubao diocese

MANILA — The Diocese of Cubao has also banned “healing priest”, Fr. Fernando Suarez from celebrating Mass and administering other sacraments in the diocese.

“Please know that Fr. Fernando Suarez, founder of the Missionaries of Mary of the Poor, and the priests from his group are banned from celebrating the Holy Eucharist and administering other sacraments in the Diocese of Cubao,” Bishop Honesto Ongtioco said in a circular addressed to all parish priests and superiors of religious communities, dated October 30 and released on Friday.

They have no permission until all the cases or allegations hurled against them are cleared, Ongtioco said without giving specifics on the cases that Suarez and his group are facing.

He also warned against “priests” from other sects and former or “suspended” Catholic clerics who are prohibited from celebrating Mass in the diocese.

“Kindly review and observe protocol,” he added.

Last month, Malaybalay Bishop Jose Cabantan barred the controversial priest from performing healing Masses under his ecclesiastical jurisdiction.

Cabantan said Suarez had been conducting healing masses without the necessary permit from his diocese.

Some bishops have previously banned the healing priest from holding Masses in their respective dioceses.
