Being in the entertainment industry for more than four decades, Sharon Cuneta, the country’s “Megastar,” undeniably is blessed to have such a long-running career. For 41 years, venturing to the world of acting, singing, hosting, and even vlogging, Sharon has been pulling out all the stops just so she can maintain the smiles on her fans’ faces.

Working hard for all those years, the 53-year-old actress-singer realizes that maybe, it is now time for her to step aside a little from the limelight.

In an Instagram post on Monday, September 2, the 53-year-old Megastar revealed that she has been “seriously thinking of semi-retiring” from show business.

“I am so very tired. It has been 41 years of work, work, work for me, and at some point, kailangan na rin sabihin sa sarili na ‘tama na’ (We need to tell ourselves ‘that’s enough’). When will it ever be enough?” she wrote.

“Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say it’s okay, and it’ll all be okay,” she added.

Sharon then addressed her fans, collectively known as Sharonians, as she explains her decision, saying, “Mahal na mahal ko kayo…pero pagod na rin si Mama… ‘Di naman siguro ako biglang forever na mawawala…pero konting-konti na lang siguro ang kakayanin kong ibigay until magpahinga na ako at i-enjoy naman ang tinatawag na private life (I love you so much… but I’m also tired. It is not like I will be gone forever abruptly but perhaps, I can only give a little until I finally take a rest and enjoy what we call a private life).”

Every once in a while, Sharon says she will do a concert or movie that she thinks will be “worthy” of the time it will take her away from her family. She also clarifies that her plan to go into semi-retirement has nothing to do with her daughter, Frankie, who’s going to attend college in New York.

“I know you will all understand,” she says, adding, “Like I said, last year ko pa naiisip at nararamdaman ito, at kinausap ko na rin ang pamilya at manager at team ko noon pa tungkol dito (I have been thinking about and feeling it since last year, and I already talked to my family, my manager, and my team about this even before).”

In the same post, Sharon shares an emotional parting with Frankie, her eldest daughter with Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, describing that moment as a “painful goodbye.”

While she waits for the elevator to open, Sharon said Frankie ran from her hotel room to hug her for one last time.

“Our tears freely flowing now, then I told her to run back to the room before I entered the elevator,” Sharon said.

She went on saying, “My girl is strong. She is my and her Daddy’s daughter, so I know she will be fine. I miss her so much. But this is for her own good and I have put my selfishness aside to let her spread her wings and fly.”

The Megastar ends her post expressing her love to her supporters and saying that she will try her best to give them “the best of me before I say goodbye.”

Last month, Sharon revealed in a vlog that she has been declining offers to do new shows.

“It’s priorities. I’m old enough and I think I’m secure enough, thank God, to be able to decide on things like that, and take my real feelings into consideration and follow my priorities in order,” she had said.

“And my priority now — it’s always been but now more than ever — my family because I’m in a good position,” she continued.
