Nadine Lustre willing to audition for Darna if asked to
Every time the public will talk about Darna, the name of Nadine Lustre automatically pops up.
This, as most of us may know already, is because many netizens are eyeing her to be a leading contender for the iconic Filipina heroine role in the Star Cinema’s movie adaptation, following Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano’s exit.
But will she take on the role? The 25-year-old actress gave an answer anew to this question during a press conference on Friday, May 3, about her recent Best Actress win in the 67th FAMAS Awards.
Being one of the frontrunners for the Darna role, Nadine said she felt “honored” that some people wanted her to portray the heroine whom she describes as an “icon” of Filipinos, “especially women.”
“She (Darna) is a strong woman. She’s also like [a] symbol of hope. She’s a protector. So para mahalintulad ako kay (for me to be likened to) Darna, it’s amazing,” she told reporters.
But Nadine reiterated her stand in her previous interviews that she is “not expecting anything” and that she is not the “kind of person who’s assuming.”
“Alam ko naman na ibibigay nila ‘yung role sa taong deserving (I know that they will give the role to someone who is deserving),” she said.
Reporters, however, quizzed Nadine if she is willing to audition for the role, which she answered, “hindi ko po alam (I don’t know).”
“Kasi ako naman po ‘pag sinabihan po ako [ng management], gagawin ko. Very ano naman ako, very open to everything. Pero kung wala naman din po kasing sinabi sakin, it’s okay (Because if the management told me to do it, then I will. I’m very open to everything. But if they did not tell me anything, it’s okay),” she explained.
“If they ask me, of course, I would want to do it. Sino naman po bang ayaw maging Darna, ‘di ba (Who would not want to be Darna, right)?” she continued.
Should she be the next Darna, the actress assured that she would really prepare for it, including stunts and harness training for the role.
“Malaking responsibilidad po ‘yun eh. Siyempre si Darna ‘yun, Filipino icon. Hindi ka pwedeng magkamali talaga (It is a huge responsibility. It is Darna, a Filipino icon. You cannot really make mistakes),” she said.
Award-winning filmmaker Erik Matti, who was supposed to helm the “Darna” film, previously chose Nadine as his top pick to replace Liza, who backed out of the film due to an injury.
“I really feel that Liza would have been a fresh and exciting Darna,” Erik shared. “After Liza, I only see Nadine Lustre so far as someone who can be Darna.
Very sultry. She has a lot of female sensuality and at the same time still looks tough and very Filipina,” he added.

On Wednesday, Star Cinema announced that they are officially opening auditions for the next superheroine not only to known actresses in the showbiz industry but also to the public.
