Filipino superheroine Darna should change her sexy red two-piece costume with gold stars in Star Cinema’s big-screen adaptation.

Actress Iza Calzado thinks that it is time for Darna to do this, as she responds to Karen Davila of ANC’s “Headstart” who brought up the topic on how hard it was to look for a suitable actress who will play the role.

“So hard kasi naka-bikini siya (So hard because she wears bikini),” Iza said, making both Karen and Karylle, who was also with her during the interview, laugh. Iza adds, “Palitan na kasi ‘yung costume, ‘di ba? Kailangan ba talagang nakabikini si Darna (They should change her costume, right? Is it really necessary for Darna to be in a bikini)?”

She compared Darna’s outfit to the more comfy costume of Gal Gadot and Brie Larson in Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, respectively. “Si Wonder Woman nga naka-one piece, Gal Gadot na ‘yon (Wonder Woman wears a one-piece. That’s already Gal Gadot). Captain Marvel’s in a full suit,” she said.

For the Sang’gre, it is not easy for someone to obtain Darna’s “perfect body” and that it is also hard to “fight justice in a bikini.”

“Kasi (Because) there’s a lot of injustice that could happen, ‘di ba (right)?” she said.

Iza was also quick to clarify that she was suggesting for a costume change not because that she wanted to play the role, but because not everybody will be “comfortable” wearing Darna’s two-piece battle gear.

The 36-year-old actress revealed in a 2014 interview with The Bottomline with Boy Abunda that she was originally tapped to play the iconic heroine in GMA-7’s television series in 2005, but it was eventually given to The General’s Daughter actress, Angel Locsin.

The search for the new Darna is still on after Liza Soberano announced that she will no longer save the world in the movie adaptation.

Liza, who was cast to take over Angel in 2017 and began filming in 2018, explained that it was a severe finger injury that led to her withdrawal. Both ABS-CBN and Star Cinema said they understand and respect the 21-year-old actress’s decision, and wished her well on her recovery.
