The grand finale of It’s Showtime’s 2019 “Miss Q&A” talent competition, honoring those from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, has concluded last Saturday, February 23 crowning Mitch Montecarlo Suansane the overall winner. The coronation was entitled “The Final Chukchak… Vaklang Twooo!” and was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Winning the top spot, Mitch was crowned by her predecessor Juliana Parizoova Segovia, who was the show’s first ever-winner. She bested out nine other finalists, with hall of famer Czedy Rodriguez receiving first runner-up and Chad Kinis Lustre-Reid winning second runner-up.

For her final question, the advocate for the LGBT community was asked in Filipino, “What is preventing the society from acceptance of your sexuality?” of which Mitch was quick to answer, “Perhaps one of the reasons why our gender is prevented is because we live in a Catholic society, because we grew up believing that in the Bible there are no gays, but just men and women. Maybe that is what stuck to our thoughts, which is why it’s harder to accept us gays. However, if you give it time, or you give it a chance to accept us, you would realize that we gays are also superior,” adding, “That is why there should be no discrimination, there shouldn’t be anyone who doesn’t accept, because we are equally made by God.”

The panel of judges for the event included Nicole Cordoves, Charo Santos-Concio, James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Maymay Entrata, and Boy Abunda. For her win, Mitch received a brand new crown, a brand new throne, and a brand new sash, along with two million pesos, a car, and a trip to Korea for two.

The beginning of the ceremony was also highlighted by host Vice Ganda, who arrived in a bright yellow gown that said, “You don’t gain anything from hating us,” relating with the gay community present among the audience. Representing the LGBT crowd, Vice Ganda performed songs “We Will Rock You,” “Brave,” and “Fight Song.”
