Duterte assigns Medialdea as OIC
MANILA — Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has been designated as officer-in-charge while President Rodrigo R. Duterte is in Bali, Indonesia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders’ meet.
In Special Order No. 1130, the President assigned Medialdea to ensure the continuity of government service, take care of the day-to-day operation in the Office of the President, and oversee the general administration of the Executive Department.
Medialdea has also been authorized to act for and on behalf of the President, except on matters that the President is required by the Constitution to act in person during the time the President is abroad.
All departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the government shall assist the executive secretary in the discharge of his functions.
All Medialdea’s acts, for and on behalf of the President pursuant to the order shall be deemed acts of the president unless disapproved or reprobated by the President.
Duterte arrived in Bali on Wednesday night to attend the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering upon the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Among the officials who joined the President are Secretaries Alan Peter Cayetano of foreign affairs, Carlos Dominguez of finance, Benjamin Diokno of budget and management, Ernesto Pernia for socioeconomic planning, Martin Andanar of communications and Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.
At the sidelines of the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering, Duterte will meet with ASEAN leaders to discuss bilateral issues of mutual importance.
The inaugural ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering is a special meeting of ASEAN Leaders with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, World Bank president Jim Yong-kim and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
