Angara reaches main draw in Malaysia tennis tournament

MANILA — Edgardo Manuel Angara won over his French opponent to reach the boys’ singles category main draw of the PREC 14 and Under Championships at the Kelana Jaya Tennis Complex in Selangor, Malaysia.

Angara demolished Enzo Michel, 6-0, 6-0, in the qualifying round on Monday to join Marc Andrei Jarata and Axl Lajon Gonzaga in the next round of the tournament sanctioned by the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).

Also advancing were Hong Kong’s Muk Chau Jiang and Malaysians Ryan Lai Eng Lim, Pavel Liam Thadani, Akash Karekatte, Limar Haiyat Mohd Rosdi, Dheren Padmanathan and Muhammad Hareez Afwan. Lim tounced compatriot Darrshan Surecsh Kumar, 6-1, 6-2; Jiang prevailed over Filipino Prince Luis Salvacion, 6-3, 6-1; Thadani clobbered teammate Izmal Mohammed Farroukh, 6-1, 6-1; Karekatte beat compatriot Syed Uzair Sufi Syed Ibrahim, 6-3, 6-4; Rosdi downed Filipino Prince Patrick Salvacion, 6-2, 6-2; Pamanathan outplayed fellow Malaysian Scott McNeill, 6-4, 6-3; and Afwan rallied past compatriot Sachindhananda Balamurungan, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Malaysia’s Quang Duong is the highest-ranked player in the boys’ singles main draw. He is No. 13 in the ATF rankings.

Other main draw players are Hong Kong’s Curtis Hong Tseng Tan (No. 17); Malaysia’s Hayden Khoo Menon (No. 28) and Lin En Tan (No. 40); India’s Rushikesh Sunkara (No. 45), Krishang Raghuvanshi (No. 69) and Vishal Prakash (No. 78); South Korea’s Tae-wan joo (No. 65) and Nepal’s Aarav Hada (No. 78).

Aside from boys’ singles, the tournament also features boys’ doubles, girls’ singles and girls’ doubles categories.

Filipinos Nina Angeline Alcala, Tuffany Claire Nocos and Marielle Alexi Jarata are also in the main draw of the girls’ singles category.

The Top 10 players in the main draw are Hong Kong’s Cheuk Ying Shek (No. 27); Malaysia’s Lim Lim Zan Ning (No. 31), Sze Xuan Lim (No. 38), Imam Syuhada Abdullah (No. 49) and Shihomi Li Xuan Leong (No. 56); South Korea’s Jio Jang (No. 48) and Ji Woo Choi (No. 72); India’s Shruuthi Khanna Madhavakannan (No. 55); Nepal’s Sharvani Shrestha (No. 59); and Thailand’s Primmada Lim (No. 78).
