‘Ompong’-affected families now at 147.5K

MANILA — Typhoon Ompong has affected a total of 147,540 families or 591,762 persons in 31 provinces in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the National Capital Region (NCR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its 6 a.m. update Monday.

Of the above-mentioned figure, 50,686 families or 192,842 persons are now being aided in 1,899 evacuation centers while another 6,510 families or 26,666 individuals are being aided outside of evacuation centers.

In the same update signed by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad, a total 214 road sections and five bridges were affected by “Ompong” in Regions 1, 2, 5 and CAR.

As of Sunday, a total of 95 road sections and one bridge was reported passable to traffic.

Also, the agency reported that 229 areas in Region 1, 3, 4A, were reported flooded as of Sunday

However, floods in 35 areas in these regions have already subsided.

The NDRRMC also reported that 38,515 families or 151,872 persons were pre-emptively evacuated in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 5, CAR and the NCR.
