Paolo Ballesteros designs Filipiniana for a beauty pageant candidate
From acting, hosting, impersonating, and even gaining international popularity for his impressive makeup skills, Paolo Ballesteros has once again showcased another one of his artistic talents — designing dresses.
For someone who is related to Fernando Amorsolo, one of the most prominent personalities in the history of painting in the country, it was not surprising that Paolo can also be as artistic as his great-grandfather.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 12, Paolo shared a video clip of Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 candidate Agatha Lei Romero, wearing his designed gown.
In the video, Agatha can be seen onstage wearing a terno gown with white sleeves and a black skirt. But before she starts walking in the runway, the beauty candidate unfolded her black skirt which unveiled ruffled blue and red tails.
Completing her look, Agatha also wore a sun and three-sun star as her headpiece.
The actor earlier said he has been designing gowns and Filipinianas for beauty competitions in the past but kept it as a secret.
Talking with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) on Wednesday, Paolo said he is fond of watching beauty contests.
“‘Pag may mga friends ako na nagpapatulong sa makeup, styling ng isang candidate, tinutulungan ko (If my friends need my help in terms of makeup or styling a candidate, I help them),” Paolo, who is famous for his makeup transformations, shared.
The Eat Bulaga host said he has designed gowns for Miss Earth and Binibining Pilipinas in collaboration with his designer friend.
PEP.ph then asked if people will be expecting “a formal launch of Paolo the designer,” the Kapuso actor answered, “For now libangan lang ito. Minsan-minsan lang. Madami pa akong dapat matutunan kung mag-ve-venture ako sa ganitong business (For now, this is just my hobby. I do it sometimes. I still have a lot to learn if I will venture to this kind of business).”
Agatha, for her part, said she was “truly honored” to showcase Paolo’s craft and the headpiece made by fashion designer Manny Halasan.
“Thank you for trusting me to wear your first (known) creation, Kuya Paolo! I am so proud to see you finally rocking the fashion industry. You are a great artist, indeed,” she wrote in her Instagram post along with photos of herself during the terno competition.
The grand coronation of the 50th Mutya ng Pilipinas will be held on September 16, this Sunday, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
