Alvarez says he has ‘moved on’ from his ouster
Recently-ousted House of the Representatives Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that he has now moved on from the developments in the lower chamber that led to his removal from the post.
“Tapos na ko dun. Naka-move on na ko (I am done with that. I have moved on),” he said in an interview with Rappler on Thursday, August 2, during the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) leadership assembly.
This was Alvarez’s response when he was asked if he wanted to change some of his actions in the past that could have contributed to what happened.
But according to the former House Speaker, he is at peace with himself.
“Wala na tayong mabigat na responsibility na pasan-pasan sa balikat natin (I do not have a heavy responsibility to carry on my shoulders anymore),” he explained.
Alvarez, in the same interview, further said that there is no sense anymore in talking about something that is already finished.
Without giving much detail, he did say that he and incumbent House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo already talked about a ‘smooth transition.’
For now, he said he will focus on his district as the Davao del Norte 1st district representative.
Alvarez in a chance interview with the reporters in the same event said that he is okay with what happened and that he still sleeps soundly at night.
“Sinabi ko nga, ako, the pain lasted only 24 hours. After that, wala na (I actually said, the pain lasted only 24 hours. After that, it is gone),” he said.
Alvarez served as the Speaker of the House since July 25, 2016, and was ousted just a couple of days before he reaches his second year in office.
On July 23 this year, just before President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered his third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
