Peso gains slightly; local stocks end flat
MANILA — The Philippine peso opened the week stronger against the greenback, while local shares ended little changed on Monday.
The local currency finished the day at 53.4 from Friday’s finish of 53.42, data from the Philippine Dealing & Exchange Corp. showed.
It opened the day at 53.35 and reached a peak of 53.32.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi), on the other hand, closed to 7,186.62 points, down 0.09 points or 0.001 percent from 7,186.71 points Friday.
PSE data showed the broader All Shares declined by 2.04 points or 0.05 percent to settle at 4,385.30 points.
Half of the sectoral indices tracked the main gauge with Industrial registering a 0.98 percent-loss; followed by Mining and Oil, which dipped 0.40 percent; and Services, down 0.17 percent.
On the other hand, Holding Firms, Financials, and Property registered upticks of 0.42 percent, 0.13 percent, and 0.02 percent, respectively.
Volume of transaction for the day reached 606.512 million shares amounting to PHP3.38 billion.
105 losers outnumbered 81 gainers, while 49 shares were unchanged.
