Duterte calling God ‘stupid’ may be linked to sexual abuse he experienced, says Palace

When President Rodrigo Duterte called God “stupid,” this outburst could have rooted in the sexual abuse perpetrated against him by as a priest during his younger years, Malacañang said on Monday.

Duterte on Friday cussed God for “creating something perfect only to come up with an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of his work.

”

But Presidential Harry Roque defended Duterte, saying that the public should not misinterpret his remark because it is his personal belief.

The president’s spokesman added that Duterte’s tirade could be a result of the sexual molestation committed against him by a priest back when he was a high school student at the Ateneo de Davao University.

He said that the Church should never forget the incident, admit that it happened, and ask for forgiveness.

If the Church acknowledges that scenarios like this are really happening, then all victims, including Duterte, could move on with their lives, Roque said.
